Manufacturing Technician

General Summary

Soft Robotics Inc. is a venture-backed startup in Cambridge, MA that designs and builds grippers and pneumatic control systems that can be used to manipulate a wide array of items with varying size, shape and weight all with a single device. By leveraging the science of soft robotic actuators, it is now possible to automate facilities that have traditionally depended on manual labor for bin picking, order fulfillment, and performance of other complex tasks across a wide range of industries.

As we continue to evolve our organization, we have an immediate need to support the commercial operations functions of our organization.

This new addition to the team will be responsible for assisting the commercial operations team, customer service and communication, general administrative and marketing functions and helping make Soft Robotics a great, rewarding place to work.

The ideal candidate will have experience in customer service, administrative and marketing functions, and will have a can-do attitude and be able to juggle multiple competing priorities in a high growth, fast paced environment.

The candidate chosen will have familiarity with MS Office products, have used a sales force automation system such as Salesforce.com, be familiar with a marketing automation system such as Marketo, and is comfortable working in customer facing environments.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Responsible for assisting the commercial operations team with duties including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Data entry and report execution

  • Managing and owning the process of customer contracts, agreements and terms

  • Primary administrative contact with customers

  • Other duties as assigned or requested

Experience/Education Requirements

  • 2-3 years office administration and/or customer relations experience required
  • BS or BA degree, business focus preferred
  • Salesforce.com experience preferred

  • Marketo or other marketing automation experience preferred

We are looking to bring on a new Manufacturing Technician to help support our strong revenue growth as we continue to bring a wide variety of novel robotic automation solutions to market.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Perform assembly of released product in accordance with documentation including but not limited to pneumatics, electrical components and cables, mechanical assemblies;
  • Perform assembly of prototype equipment with minimal documentation;
  • Assist in monitoring and ensuring accurate inventory accounting;
  • Supports of all manufacturing & operations activities including but not limited to: shipping, receiving, component inspection, inventory maintenance, fabrication, testing
  • Support company policies, procedures, goals, objectives and manufacturing best practices

Experience/Skill Requirements

  • 5+ years of assembly experience
  • 1-2 years of engineering lab or prototype experience
  • Knowledge of manufacturing best practices
  • IPC soldering certification or similar formal soldering
  • Ability to grasp technology quickly
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Enthusiastic, positive mentality
  • Experience in an ISO or FDA regulated environment preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of exceptional individual performance in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision but also thrives in highly integrated team environments;
  • A passion for robotics is preferred!

Education Requirements

  • HS or equivalent required
  • Vocational/Technical/trade school preferred
  • Certificate/BA/BS in advanced manufacturing or engineering highly desirable
  • Military background a plus

Principal Electrical Engineer

We are looking to hire a Principal Electrical Engineer to participate in R&D and Product Development activities as we bring to market high-value automation solutions that leverage state-of-the-art soft robotic systems and integrated sensing and computer vision for object detection, grasping, and manipulation.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Perform electronics architecture design and development;
  • Design analog and digital circuits and subsystems;
  • Perform schematic capture, circuit simulation and PCB artwork design;
  • Design for safety, manufacturability, reliability and test;
  • Perform system test and debug;
  • Design and run verification and validation test protocols;
  • Support manufacturing and test;
  • Participate in risk management and design control activities;
  • Perform Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA);
  • Participate in design reviews and document development activities per established product development process;
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns/coops;
  • Other duties as required.

Experience/Education Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering required; Advanced degree(s) a plus.
  • 7+ years of experience in product development organizations ideally working under a certified quality system;
  • Versatility in other disciplines (Mechanical and Software Engineering) is highly desired;
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for commercial and industrial products is a must as is experience producing compliant design control documentation;
  • Experience with robotic or other complex electromechanical systems is strongly desired;
  • Demonstrated track record of exceptional individual performance in a fast paced environment;
  • Fluent in a modern electronic design automation (EDA) tool suite; Altium Designer experience strongly desired; MATLAB for mathematical analysis a plus;
  • Familiarity with microprocessor/microcontroller systems desired; programming experience a plus;
  • Ability to execute complex assembly and test procedures and gather data;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Proficiency in the creation and maintenance of documentation;
  • Attention to details;
  • Ability to work independently but also thrives in highly integrated team environments;
  • A passion for robotics is preferred!

Principal Software Engineer

We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer to participate in R&D and Product Development activities as we bring to market high-value automation solutions that leverage computer vision, object recognition, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud computing.

The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer who is equally comfortable working on software-only projects as well as those that interface with sensors and actuators via USB, SPI, digital I/O, etc. He/she will work on a variety of customer-focused projects throughout the product development life cycle, from initial proofs of concept through robust production-ready implementations.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Design and develop software that interfaces with cameras, sensors, industrial manipulators and other electromechanical devices;
  • Develop software across the continuum from low-level control to user-facing applications;
  • Participate in advancing the state-of-the-art for control of our patented soft robotic systems;
  • Work with a cross-functional engineering team and other company stakeholders to identify new product concepts;
  • Design for safety, manufacturability, reliability and test;
  • Develop and execute test procedures;
  • Support manufacturing and product enhancements;
  • Participate in risk management and technical roadmap activities;
  • Participate in design reviews and document development activities per established product development process;
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns/coops;
  • Other duties as required.


Experience/Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent;
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience;
  • Proficiency in either C/C++ or Python and demonstrable experience with both;
  • Comfortable developing software in a Linux environment;
  • Can demonstrate past experiences with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Proficiency in the creation and maintenance of documentation;
  • Demonstrated track record of exceptional individual performance in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong attention to details;
  • Ability to work independently but also thrives in highly integrated team environments.


Preferred qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in product development organizations ideally working under a certified quality system;
  • Experience with "best practices" such as issue tracking, static code checking, and automated testing;
  • Experience with a web development framework such a Rails or Django;
  • Experience with UI/UX design and development;
  • Versatility in other disciplines (Mechanical and Electrical Engineering) or “Maker” experience is highly desired;
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for software development in a commercial/industrial setting;
  • Familiarity with microprocessor/microcontroller systems desired; FW development experience a plus;
  • Ability to execute complex assembly and test procedures and gather data;
  • A passion for robotics is preferred!
